Staring at a treatment plan you were not expecting can be stressful. Many patients choose between delaying care and paying full price out of pocket, and neither option feels good when a toothache isn’t waiting around for open enrollment.
At Revive Dentistry, we built our in-house membership plan because we saw how often a lack of dental insurance kept people from getting care they needed. If you have been wondering whether a membership plan makes sense for your family, here is what to know before you decide.
What Is a Dental Membership Plan?
A dental membership plan is a yearly fee patients pay directly to a dental office in exchange for preventive care and a discount on additional treatment. Unlike traditional dental insurance, there are no claims, no waiting periods, and no annual maximums working against you. You simply pay one fee and know what your preventive care costs for the year.
Membership plans were designed with a specific patient in mind: someone without dental insurance through an employer or who finds traditional plans too limited to justify the monthly premium. According to the American Dental Association Health Policy Institute, adults without dental benefits are far less likely to visit the dentist regularly or receive routine care than adults with private coverage, which often leads to more expensive problems down the road.
How a Membership Plan Compares to Dental Insurance
Traditional dental insurance can work well for some patients, but it comes with limitations that catch many people off guard. Annual maximums, waiting periods for major work, and narrow networks can all get in the way of the care you actually need.
A membership plan works differently because it removes the middleman entirely. You aren’t waiting for a claim to process or hoping a procedure falls under your plan’s yearly maximum. Instead, your membership fee covers most routine preventative visits outright, PA’s and Pano x-rays can be taken during routine preventative visits but they are not fully covered under the membership – just the 15% off, and you receive a set discount on any other treatment your smile needs, whether that is a filling, a crown, or cosmetic dentistry down the road (whitening is not included in the membership).
Who Tends to Benefit Most?
Patients without any dental benefits are the most obvious fit, but membership is also available to patients whose insurance includes only very limited preventive benefits. Families juggling several dental schedules at once may also appreciate the predictability of a flat annual cost instead of tracking separate deductibles for each person.
What Our Membership Plan Includes
We built our plan around the same foundations-first philosophy that guides every recommendation Dr. Khezri makes for his patients. Before any major procedure is on the table, we want your hygiene and periodontal health in a solid place, and our membership plan is designed to support that kind of consistent preventive care.
Our plan offers two tiers to match where a patient is starting from and provides benefits including:
Standard tier: Built for patients who are focused on “healthy mouth cleanings,” annual checkups, and restorative maintenance.
Periodontal tier: Designed for those managing gum disease and needing more frequent hygiene visits.
Discount on additional care: Both tiers include a percentage off a multitude of treatments performed in our office.
No waiting periods: Coverage for included services begins as soon as you join.
Membership costs $389 a year and includes a 15% discount on other treatment (some exceptions apply), which tends to make both routine care and unexpected needs easier to manage financially.
Questions to Ask Before You Decide
Every patient’s situation looks a little different, so it helps to think through a few questions before signing up for any membership plan. Consider how often you actually make it in for cleanings and exams, and whether missed visits in the past came down to cost. Think about whether your household has dental insurance already, as a membership plan is generally built to serve those without existing coverage rather than to stack on top of it. It is also worth asking what discount applies to the treatments you are most likely to need, whether that is a simple filling or something more involved like dental implants.
If you are weighing cost against value, our payment options page also outlines how CareCredit and Cherry financing can work alongside or instead of a membership plan, depending on what fits your budget best.
